Del.icio.us 2.0 Preview: The Social Bookmarking Site Gets A Radical Makeover

deliciouspre.jpgEveryone’s favorite social bookmarking site, del.icio.us has launched a revamped interface, which founder Joshua Schachter says is a complete ground-up rewrite of the service with a host of new features. Unfortunately the preview is only available by invite for the moment.

My account hasn’t been set up for the preview yet, but you can try logging in here to see if you’re part of the limited test.

TechCrunch, which has had access to the new service, has a nice write up and the changes to the interface can be seen in the screenshots.

Among the new features are:

  • Completely revamped interface
  • The navigation bar is now organized into Bookmarks, People, and Tags. A new MyTags page lets you see all your tags in an expanded cloud
  • The bookmark summary can be adjusted to show more or less detail and now shows a save count so you can see how many other people have bookmarked the page. You can also see everyone???s bookmarks for that web page or just those people in your network.
  • The new sidebar improves tag and tag bundle navigation

Interestingly, nearly all of those features are already available in competitor ma.gnolia.

A word of caution, if you do have an invite to the new Delicious 2.0, TechCrunch says that, while all of your existing bookmarks are imported to the preview, any changes you make will be lost when the new service launches. Clearly this is a testing only project and Schachter says that many of the features may change, based on user feedback, before Delicious 2.0 launches.
