Eclipse IDE Embraces PHP Developers

eclipse.jpgEclipse, the popular programming development platform, has announced a new toolset for PHP programmers — the Eclipse PHP Development Tools 1.0. Eclipse is an integrated development environment (IDE) used primarily by Java programmers, but as PHP continues to grow in popularity, the new Eclipse tools are a natural progression for the software.

The new toolset allows those familiar with Eclipse to write PHP applications and take advantage of the some 1,400 plug-ins which speed and ease code creation. The Eclipse Project, which was originally created by IBM, is open source and free.

Interestingly, Zend Technologies, makers of other commercial development tools for PHP, are participating in the new Eclipse project. Zend says it will be building its new commercial tools on top of the Eclipse PHP Development software. The first fruits of this new partnership should hit the market early next year.
