Former Netscape Head Takes VC Gig

Jcalacanis_1
More gossip from the blogosphere: TechCrunch is reporting that Jason Calacanis has joined venture capitol firm Sequoia Capitol as an "Entrepreneur in Action."

Calacanis left America Online a few weeks ago after his mentor, Jonathan Miller, was forced out of his position as AOL’s CEO. Jason Calacanis is the co-founder of Weblogs, Inc. and one of blogging’s key early evangelists. His company was purchased by AOL, and he later went on to head up the new Netscape.com, turning it into a Digg clone news aggregation site and running it until his departure in mid-Novemeber.

Sequoia Captiol is the Bill Graham of the VC industry. Its funding list includes some little startups like Google, Yahoo, YouTube, Apple, Atari and 3Com.

According to TechCrunch and Valleywag, Calacanis will reportedly advise Sequoia on new VC opportunities before launching his own startup in a few months. This is a good move for Jason, as he’s more of the brash CEO type than he is a VP or a product manager.

NB: The word "Sequoia" contains every vowel in the English alphabet. The word "Calacanis" has only two of the five vowels, but three As.
