Hacks For Downloading Songs on MySpace

Here are a couple of interesting MySpace hacks. MySpace.com is a great place to find music posted by artists from all over the world. However, usually only one or two of any given band’s songs are downloadable via a direct link. The rest are only capable of being streamed with the little MySpace player.

Here are two methods (both from Tech-Recipes.com) that let you download any song posted on MySpace.com. One method uses an HTML link, the other utilizes the XML file that the player reads when it loads up the music streams.

UPDATED on Jan 6th: Alright, judging from the discussions on the forums at Tech Recipes and from feedback we’ve received from our readers, it’s clear to us that the HTML link hack shown above doesn’t work. Some readers speculate that MySpace has plugged that particular hole in its player’s functionality since this hack started circulating. However, we here at Monkey Bites witnessed a demonstration of the XML file hack, and we can report that it does indeed work. Mind you, downloading songs from MySpace users in this fashion could be considered illegal, since the bands posting the songs have chosen to post them as streaming-only for a reason. We’d like to make it clear that we don’t condone the illegal downloading of copywritten material. If you hear a streamed song on MySpace that you like, contact the artist about purchasing it.
