MySpace Goes Mobile With Targeted Ads

phone2.jpgMySpace has announced a new free, ad-supported mobile version of the site. MySpace already offers subscription-based versions of MySpace for AT&T and Helio wireless customers, complete with integrated features for specific phones, but the new version will work with all U.S. service providers and phones. Of course, smart-phone owners can always access the main site through a traditional mobile browser like the iPhone’s version of Safari or Opera’s Mobile browser.

The new service is part of MySpace’s move to draw in some more advertising dollars via the mobile market, and eventually the new service will offer targeted ads using information gleaned from the personal information on your profile and blog.

Fox Interactive Media, which oversees News Corp.’s internet properties, like MySpace, also plans to crank out mobile versions of FoxSports.com, IGN (a gaming site), AskMen and more.

Perhaps the most interesting of these planned mobile sites is a mobile version of Photobucket, the image sharing site popular with MySpace users. So far no firm dates have been announced for the Photobucket mobile site. The Associated Press says Photobucket mobile will be available “in coming months.”

The new mobile version of MySpace can be found at http://mobile.myspace.com.
