Pubwalk

Pubwalk, created by Raj Singh, is one of the better mashups I saw at the demo session today. It's especially useful to me because it's going to force me to add a bit of organization the nights I spend drinking.

Pubwalk combines data about bars from Citysearch with maps from Google and Yahoo Mobile. Search for a ZIP code and you'll see results for all of the nearby bars, clubs and late-night eating establishments — the search engine returns any business open after 10 PM. You can mouse over points on your location map and see CitySearch ratings and photos. If it seems like the type of place you'd want to hang out, you add the bar to your Pubwalk route. Then, you can continue to browse around the map and add new bars and clubs to your route. Pubwalk builds an agenda, draws a map and generates a set of walking directions. It also gives you approximate walking times from bar to bar, and a total time — including walking and drinking times — for the entire route. The total time has a customized engine that accounts for the fact that you'll be walking more and more slowly as the evening goes on.

The service also generates a link that you can pass around or post, and a iframe that you can embed into your blog so strangers can join in. Raj has even coded in the ability to send a copy of the route to mobile devices and to Dodgeballs users.

There's a social networking component built into Pubwalk, as well. Users can leave comments about a particular bar or restaurant (such as "great band tonight at 11pm" or "stay away from the sukiyaki"). The users are authenticated using cookies, so there's no login or registration required. Also, the comments are cleared every 24 hours since the comments tend to be specific to a particular day.

A fine mashup! The service is live on Pubwalk.com, so you can go there and check it out for yourself.
