Simplify Media Streams Your Entire Music Library to Your iPhone

SimplifySimplify Media is a new iPhone/iPod Touch app that can stream your iTunes music library straight to your phone over a WiFi or cell network. Given the iPhone/Touch’s current disk space limitations (16 GB max) this should be great news for those of you with large music libraries.

The app requires a desktop client running on the computer you want to stream from, but there are versions of the client available for all major platforms — Mac, Windows and Linux.

I took the app for a spin last night and it works as advertised. Over WiFi there was no delay or buffering in playback, though loading playlists takes a minute or two. I haven’t tried it over EDGE or 3G. There is one potential annoyance — if you switch networks (move from WiFi to cell for instance), you’ll need to restart the app.

Simplify Media began life as a Jailbreak app, but the new version is legit and available through the App Store. At least for now. It’s hard to tell which apps Apple will randomly pull from the App Store and Simplify offers some features Apple might frown on — like accessing as many as 30 music libraries.

We’ve already seen at least one cool app disappear without warning (NullRiver’s NetShare iPhone tethering app), so take our advice: get Simplify while the gettin’s good. Simplify Media is a free download, just point your iPhone/iPod/iTunes over to the App Store.
