Streaming and Casting Public Radio

The site Public Radio Fan is an excellent resource for locating public, university, and community radio station streams. You can search by time, by radio station, and by show title to find the next appearance of “Cartalk” or “This American Life” or the Grateful Dead hour or whatever your radio fix happens to be.

Public Radio Fan offers a customizable home page, so you can set it to display a list of your favorite stations and programs. They also have special listings for podcasts and satellite radio subscribers. Public Radio Fan also picks up feeds and podcasts from the BBC and CBC, and lists English-speaking programs from all over the world.

I can make a strong personal recommendation that you check out “Morning Becomes Ecclectic” on KCRW in Los Angeles and “LJ’s Dream,” which is on every Sunday morning on WRUV in Burlington, Vermont. Our friend Phil also recommends that fans of “Prairie Home Companion” check out what’s widely regarded to be the Canadian version of the same concept. It’s called “Vinyl Cafe,” and its hosted by storyteller Stuart McLean.
