Sxip Releases ID Manager for Firefox

Sxipperbanner_1
You’ll never forget a password again. In fact, you won’t even need to remember a password again.

Identity 2.0 company Sxip has developed a free online ID management plugin for Firefox called Sxipper. The extension was announced today at the Internet Identity Workshop, and the beta is available for download right now at the Sxipper website.

The plugin (which is pronounced "skipper") encrypts and stores all of
your login, password and identity information locally. When you visit a site that
requires a login, a little Sxipper dialog box pops up, and you can log in with a
click of the mouse. If the site requires registration, Sxipper will
register for you by auto-completing the web form using your stored
information.

Sxipper is OpenID compatible, so as more and more sites move to adopt the standard, you’ll have an easier time managing your logins. Sxipper also loads all of the pertinent personal information stored in your computer’s address book so you likely won’t need to feed it anything to get it up to speed.

The form auto-complete function uses some sort of voodoo described on the Sxipper site as "community-driven semantic mapping." Not quite sure what this is, but my guess is that it uses anonymously collected intelligence from Sxipper users to learn how to more accurately navigate web forms.

The beta version of the extension requires Firefox 1.5, but version 2.0 is recommended.
