Tape it off the Internet
This one came to us via the wonderful digg.com.
Tape it off the Internet is a new service that marries television content, BitTorrent, and Web 2.0 frameworks. People have been using BitTorrent to download television shows ever since the technology was first poularized. It’s proven to be useful for expats living across the globe who want to keep up with Deadwood or Arsenal football games. However, the trackers most people use are disparate and of indeterminate origin.
The Tioti service not only aggregates all of the most popular trackers’ RSS feeds in one central location, but it goes the extra mile by adding a social networking element to the downloading experience. You can get recommendations from friends and participate in user forums for shows. Also, the site has an episode tracker that lets you map where you are in any given series — which episodes you’ve watched from which seasons and how you rated them. You can also use the episode guide to filter out forum posts and RSS feeds concerning episodes you haven’t yet watched, thus avoiding spoilers.
It all sounds great, but how legal is it? That remains to be seen. So, soak it up now while you can, or simply turn off the television and go play tennis or something. And don’t forget to adjust the hue… the hue is off.
