Tricks To Get Lightroom’s Print Module Working In Leopard

lightroom.jpgAdobe Lightroom isn’t completely compatible with Apple’s new Leopard OS. As we’ve mentioned before, the Lightroom Print module doesn’t seem to work in Leopard. While Adobe says an update will be out later this month, if you simply must print from Lightroom right now, we found a trick that might help.

At least two people in the Image Space forums have reported success using these instructions. I haven’t tested it and Lightroom has other issues under Leopard, but if you’re desperate for a fix to the Print Module problem this might help (YMMV).

One caveat: you’ll need to make sure that your printer has Leopard compatible drivers available.

See the Image Space post for complete details, but here’s gist of the process:

  • Uninstall Lightroom. Make a backup and delete the whole app, preferences and everything (AppZapper is useful for this kind of thing, though you can do it by hand).
  • Then grab the latest Leopard drivers for your printer.
  • Now delete your installed print drivers and reset the printing system (Image Space notes: “This is done by opening the System preferences, selecting ‘Print and Fax’, delete the drivers then right click on the left hand Printers pane. This should bring up a menu where you can select Reset the Printing system”).
  • Reinstall Lightroom from the disk and apply the 1.2 update from Adobe.
  • Reinstall the drivers you downloaded in step 2.
  • Cross your fingers and give it a try.

If it works for you, or you have problems, let us know in the comments. We’ll be sure to let you know when an official fix is available from Adobe.
