Writers’ Strike Relief: The 1994 Pilot Of 24, Featuring AOL 3.0
With the writers’ strike in full swing and your favorite networks running on an ever dwindling supply of new content, the good folks over at College Humor have stepped in to offer up fans of the hit show 24 a glimpse of the never before seen pilot shot in 1994.
Yes, it’s a trip down memory lane that answers the questions all the show’s fans have always wondered, like — what would happen if CTU used AOL 3.0?
Highlight dialogue that smacks with all the writerly craft of our striking compatriots:
“They’ve taken over our Geocities account.”
“God help us.”
And:
“E-mail him the bomb schematics”
“It’s 950 kilobytes”
“Jesus! Print it out, we’ll send a bike messenger.”
Will the writers’ strike be a boon for web TV? Nicholas Thompson over at our sister blog, Epicenter thinks that sites like FunnyOrDie, Revver, The Onion News Network and College Humor will flourish the longer the Hollywood script writers spend haggling over whatever it is they’re haggling about.
We think that sounds about right, in fact, this could be the camel’s back-breaking moment when it comes to the general public latching on to web video.
Thompson’s got some telling historical evidence about the aftermath of past stikes to back up his claim. Check it out on Epicenter.
