Yahoo Local

Yahoo Local’s Paul Levine just finished speaking about the role that sharing and participation play in local search. Paul’s theory is an easy one to grasp: When people in a city or a neighborhood can contribute to the data set for that particular area, local searches return better results. Yahoo is hoping that consumers and businesses work together to contribute data.

He pointed to some examples of newer Yahoo products — such as Upcoming.org and the new Yahoo Photos, which includes support for geotagging and geo-referenced photos — that help promote interaction between Yahoo users in local areas.

He also announced that the local team at Yahoo has launched a blog.
