Yahoo Pipes For The IPhone

pipesphone.jpgYahoo Pipes recently saw two key members (including the service’s co-founders) leave to pursue other projects, but that doesn’t mean Pipes is dying off. Far from it, Yahoo Pipes recently released a brand new iPhone interface and some new ways of searching through the various Pipes to find ones that interest you.

The iPhone interface is the result of a Yahoo hack day and allows you to access your mash-ups at the new domain: iphone.pipes.yahoo.com. In addition to optimizing the pipes interface for the small screen, Yahoo has integrated Pipes with the built-in iPhone mapping application. You can put any of your geo Pipe results on the iPhone just by pressing the “Map” button.

Featured Pipes relevant for iPhone users include the restroom locator, live traffic results and price watcher. There’s a new tag on the Pipes page “iphoneapp” which has plenty more as well.

The Pipes team has also revamped the site’s search mechanism adding mroe options for advanced criteria, including the types of output the pipe produces, what data sources it is mashing up and of course you can now tag your pipes to make it easier for others to discover them.

Yahoo Pipes may have lost some of its founders but there’s clearly still an active team at work and new features should be welcome news for those of us who’ve come to rely on Pipes for creating news mash-ups.
