iPhone Hackers Head Off To Camp This Weekend

Iphonedevcampfulllogo

Mobile web apps will take center stage this weekend at the first ever iPhone Dev Camp in San Francisco.

The three-day unconference kicks off Friday night with a meet and greet planning session. Then, the hacking begins in earnest on Saturday and continues through Sunday afternoon, when apps will be demonstrated and awards will be handed out. The grand prize is (of course) an 8GB iPhone.

IPhone Dev Camp is an open forum for developers to build, test and optimize web applications for Apple’s handheld device. Those are the primary goals, anyway — hackers will also be encouraged to share undocumented features and migrate some Dashboard widgets to a web-based format. Although the camp’s agenda is all about web apps for the iPhone, chances are we’ll see some folks trying to get into the device’s guts, too. After all, that’s the prize everyone wants.

It’s being organized and run in the same tradition as other developer-centric get-togethers like BarCamp and SuperHappyDevHouse. Adobe is kindly playing host by opening up its San Francisco office to attendees. Registration is limited, but we’ll be there blogging the whole time. You can read all of our iPhone Dev Camp coverage right here on Compiler during the weekend.
