Autoformat Your Website for iPhones With Intersquash
Intersquash is a website designed to take any site’s RSS feed and automatically format it for the iPhone (or any other mobile phone for that matter).
The site asks for the URL of your RSS feed, a name for the site, and an optional icon. In return, it offers an iPhone-ized URL and a snippet of HTML you can put in your website’s code to redirect iPhones automatically. The optimized version of the site is complete with large links, buttons and scrolling lists suitable for thumbs and index fingers instead of mouse pointers.
It is a solution ideal for bloggers or content providers who don’t know much about web development or simply don’t want to bother with the intricacies of optimizing a site for the iPhone. The new iPhone-optimized site is pretty minimal. In fact, it’s nothing more than a list of your posts pointing to snippets of your content, but it beats the time it would take building the site from scratch. It’s also handy for sites like Monkey Bites, which (sorry) ends up pretty buggy on Mobile Safari.
However, if making a better functioning iPhone version of your site appeals to you, we recommend iUI, a web framework you can use to build lists in an iPhone-friendly format. If you’re interested in building an iPhone-friendly site from scratch, Webmonkey has an iUI primer tutorial you should check out.
