Intense Debate’s Return Brings Better Comments to WordPress
It took less than two months after it was bought by WordPress’ parent company, Automattic, but Intense Debate is back. Of course, WordPress now enjoys the benefit of its purchase by integrating Intense Debate’s commenting system.
Shortly after its purchase in late September, Intense Debate dropped into an invite-only beta while the system ramped up for WordPress’ scale of users. Thursday, the commenting system was returned to blogger’s hands via a plug-in installation. The plug-in replaces the WordPress commenting system with a feature-packed version complete with back-up options. Information about WordPress integration can be found via the video walkthrough, included below:
Intense Debate was always more ambitious than your average comment system. For one, it was very encompassing of other technology, like OpenID. More so, the commenting system had the ability to update your Twitter or an RSS feed. Other features include Gmail-like threading and commenter reputation-tracking and profiles.
In that respect, the system works more like a social network, tying your thoughts together and sharing them in ways any existing commenting system did. It sure beats most commenting systems out there, save maybe its closest competitor, Disqus.
Intense Debate also works with other blogging software like Blogger, TypePad and Tumblr.
