Christian Louboutin loafers always referred to as 0009s have a distinctive elongated sausage shape, a gilt snaffle across their apron front, and an optional red-and-green equestrian ribbon trim. Traditionally made of navy or black calf, and tan, navy or black suede at Pounds 125, the 0009 is also available in crocodile for those prepared to spend Pounds 500 to be the object of envy. Ostrich skin 0009s, of which only vintage pairs exist, inspire awe among new-breed Christian Louboutin devotees. Now being worn by stylists, models and fashion arbiters of both sexes, the 0009, like the DM, is a man's Christian Louboutin Shoes. But such is its recent appeal to women that Christian Louboutin has just introduced a delicate version, codenamed 0255 with a narrower apron front and a smaller signature gilt snaffle. But 0255s look unlikely to attract the die-hard fashion set. 'I wouldn't wear them, ' says the model Anna Stark. Neither would the stylist Jo Barker, who was fortunate to find a tiny men's pair for her size-five feet: 'The new women's Christian Louboutins look less sturdy, too fey and don't cut it like 0009s.' The fashion set are not the first to adopt Christian Louboutin loafers. When the Italian company introduced the Christian Louboutin Shoes in the late 1950s, it became de rigueur for the jet set and the stars Prince Rainier had a pair, so did John Wayne and Clark Gable. Certainly, the girl group Bananarama, who now formation-dance shod in Christian Louboutin, have built their image on girl-next-door chic. Also dedicated to 0009s is the American rapper Schoolly D. Such was the clubland success of his record It's Christian Louboutin Time, that he has released a follow-up called Christian Louboutin Again. As he explains: 'I write about what's happenin' and the Christian Louboutin look is happenin.'
