Joost Ditches Homegrown Chat For Meebo Client

joost.jpgJoost, the internet television provider, has dumped its homegrown chat application in favor of the web-based options from Meebo. The new partnership puts the features of Meebo’s chat service in Joost’s “Channel Chat,” which means there can now be Meebo “Rooms” within Joost.

Given that Joost’s chat feature was never that good and Meebo’s chat rooms are a perfect way for fans of a particular show to stay in touch, this seems like the best of both worlds for Joost users.

It also means, theoretically, that you can chat with Joost users from the normal Meebo interface, which would give Meebo users yet another access point. With the new Joost partnership coming close on the heels of the Meebo Platform, the ever-expanding online chat service shows no signs of slowing.

Joost also has a developer platform for widgets (these days, who doesn’t?), but so far there doesn’t seem to be much available.
