Yahoo Open Hack Day 2008 Kicks Off Friday

Yep, it’s time again for another Yahoo Hack Day event. These invitational web app coding marathons are definitely winners in the “most fun developer events hosted by gigantic corporations” category. There are tutorials and tech sessions all day Friday, then a party on Friday night with a secret musical guest (two years ago it was Beck). The core of the event is the all-night coding marathon when attendees are encouraged to build the coolest application they can dream up in 24 hours. There are lightning-round presentations on Saturday afternoon, and a panel of judges picks the winner. First prize is a Fire Eagle flame thrower! Not really. It’s probably a MacBook Air or something.

Webmonkey will be down at the Yahoo campus in Sunnyvale, bringing you highlights from the tech talks and photos of the bearded and bespectacled masses within. Ourselves not withstanding.

Visit hackday.org and developer.yahoo.com for more info. See you there!
