Wonolo App Review – Is Wonolo Legit & Good For Gig Workers?
When it comes to making money quickly, it's truly hard to beat app based jobs.
After all, with apps like DoorDash or Uber Eats, or companies like TaskRabbit, you can start a side hustle relatively quickly and earn good money.
However, I'll admit that even gig jobs can be a bit slow if there's a lengthy signup process or a particular gig just isn't great in your area.
In cases like this, you're sometimes better off working with same-day paying jobs for local companies in your area.
Now, if you don't know how to land work with an in-demand staffing company, don't fret.
With Wonolo, you can find high-paying work as early as tomorrow at companies in your city that need a helping hand.
Sound awesome?
Well, let's dive into our Wonolo review to cover everything you need to know!
What Is Wonolo?
Wonolo is an on-demand staffing solution that connects businesses in need of temporary staff with gig economy workers who can provide labor.
In fact, Wonolo stands for “Work Now Locally,” so you know what this company is all about.
The company began in 2013. Since then, Wonolo has grown into a successful staffing solution across many cities in the United States.
Businesses can take advantage of Wonolo because it's cheaper and faster than a lot of traditional staffing solutions.
Plus, gig workers looking to boost their income quickly can also benefit from becoming a Wonoloer!
On Wonolo, businesses are known as requestors. Workers on the other hand are known as Wonoloers.
The beauty of this platform is really that it benefits both sides: businesses get fast hires, and everyday people can boost their income!
Plus, many of the jobs for Wonoloers are beter paying than typical gig jobs, and there's also quite a bit of variety.
What Kind Of Jobs Are On Wonolo?
If you want to make money with Wonolo, you're probably wondering what kind of work you'll be doing.
Well, in a nutshell, here are the industries that you'll find most commonly on Wonolo:
- Warehouse operations.
- General labor.
- Delivery driving jobs.
- Food production.
- Event staffing.
- Washing and cleaning gigs.
- Administrative work.
- Merchandising and retail.
As you can see, these aren't anything out of the ordinary…just solid, honest work for decent pay.
On Wonolo, you get to apply to jobs that interest you, so you can choose to work in the industries you're most qualified for!
You also don't need to worry about resumes or complicated interviews…everything is done through the simple app interface which we're about to get into!
How Does Wonolo Work? – Job Requirements & Signing Up
Like I mentioned, one advantage of Wonolo is that signing up and finding work is actually quite fast.
As long as you meet the basic requirements and complete your application correctly, there shouldn't be any problems.
Anyways, here are the steps to start making money with Wonolo!
1. Meet Wonolo Requirements
There are several requirements you need to pass to even be eligible to work for Wonolo.
These requirements include:
- Being 18 or older.
- Having a valid social security number.
- Having a smartphone to clock in and out of your job.
If you meet these requirements, you can get started with your application!
2. Download The Wonolo App
Another great aspect of Wonolo is that you manaage everything through the app; there's no need to lug your computer around or call a staffing company to find work.
So, to get started, download Wonolo for Android or IOS. The app is free for both platforms.
As long as you have a modern smartphone that isn't ancient, you shouldn't have problems installing the Wonolo app.
3. Sign Up
Once you open the Wonolo app, you're prompted to complete a profile so Wonolo actually knows who you are.
This includes a list of basic demographic questions and a short quiz. This is really designed to get a feel for who you are and what sort of skills you have.
All of this takes a few minutes, so you should be able to complete your profile and begin searching for jobs with Wonolo the same day you sign up.
4. Apply For Jobs
The Wonolo app displays a list of current job openings in your area, making it easy to search for your next gig.
Using the app is also rather intuitive…jobs have a description, company name, and have a description of what you're going to be doing.
Jobs also display how much they pay, and Wonolo makes it easy to apply to jobs with just a single tap.
If you apply to a job that doesn't require a background check, you can pretty much start working the same day you download the app.
However, many jobs require a background check, which does slow down your hiring slightly.
According to Wonolo, “It depends on the opportunity and the company that posted it. If a background check is required, you will be notified of this after you have been offered and accepted the job. Background checks are facilitated by a third-party provider, Evident.”
For a background check, you provide:
- Government-issued photo ID.
- A photo of yourself for verification.
This is all standard stuff, especially for factory work or jobs where you're driving machinery, so don't panic!
5. Work & Get Paid
If you're accepted for a Wonolo gig, you'll get a notification so you know when you're supposed to make it to your shift.
Wonolo's app has some basic scheduling functionality, but I also suggest jotting down your shifts in your phone's calendar and on a physical calendar in your home so you don't forget.
Once you complete your shift, you get paid within one to five business days, which is pretty fast in the world of part-time work.
All payments go through the Wonolo app and pay out with Stripe. You can also choose to get paid directly into a bank account or debit card when you sign up.
Ultimately, this means Wonolo is a fast and effective way to boost your monthly income in just a few shifts.
NOTE: if something comes up and you can't make it to a job, that's okay.
However, you need to immediately withdraw from the job in the Wonolo app and also try to give as much notice as possible.
If you give less than 12 hours of notice, future Wonolo work opportunities might be limited as a slap on the wrist until you prove you're reliable.
6. Get Reviews
When you complete a job, you get a star rating from the company that hired you.
You can earn up to 5 stars for a job, and getting positive ratings is very important on Wonolo.
Reviews stay on your profile, so if you're applying to more jobs in the future, you want a profile that's full of 4 and 5 star reviews and positive feedback.
This is especially important when starting out. After all, would you hire someone with just a single job completion and a 1 star review? Probably not.
How Much Does Wonolo Pay?
Since Wonolo hosts a variety of jobs, there's no single answer for how much you make per hour as a Wonoloer.
However, if we look at salary data for some gigs, you'll see that Wonolo pays above minimum wage for every job:
Typically, jobs like factory work, general labor, and driving pay more than merchandise or food jobs.
However, every city and gig is different, so it's worth checking out.
In any case, I give an average estimate of $15 per hour when working for Wonolo.

Update – Wonolo Pledges Living Wages For Gig Workers
I wanted to update our Wonolo app review since Wonolo has just announced their pledge to achieve a universal living wage standard for their users.
Approximately 75% of Wonolo jobs already pay a living wage, and 100% of jobs are above minimum wage.
However, this is an awesome sign to see because it means Wonolo will continue to push for higher wages for gig workers who use their app. Very cool!
Other Wonolo Reviews
Wonolo has been around for a few years at this point.
Durnig this time, the platform has had enough time to accumulate hundreds of reviews from Wonoloers across the country.
Currently, Wonolo has:
- 3.7 stars on Indeed.
- 2 stars on Yelp.
- 5 stars on Glassdoor.
- 3.7 stars on G2
Wonoloers definitely cite flexibility and decent pay as some of the favorite parts about the platform.
Of course, there are some negative Wonolo reviews out there as well.
Most of them look something like this from what I've seen:
This is a pretty common trend in the world of gig economy apps: they either work great in your city and there's plenty of work, or you're just out of luck and jobs are too far away.
I wouldn't count this as a huge knock against Wonolo, especially with recent events slowing down jobs.
Hopefully, the job depth only continues to improve as the platform grows.
Pros & Cons
If you're still on the fence about using this platform, consider the following pros and cons of Wonolo.
The Pros:
- Flexible, same-day jobs.
- Fast signup process.
- Above minimum wage pay.
- Great job variety.
- Lenient hiring requirements.
I mean, it's hard to find a gig app where you can find decent paying gigs that same day and get paid fairly quickly.
However, Wonolo isn't without some disadvantages.
The Cons:
- Job availability isn't always perfect/great.
- Wonolo is still expanding to different cities so it might not be available where you live.
- Earings are probably capped around $20 per hour for most jobs.
- Background checks can take time.
Hopefully, the fast signup and decent pay are enough to outweigh these cons!
Frequently Asked Questions
I thought it would be a good idea to wrap up our review of Wonolo with some of the most commonly asked questions I've seen online.
1. Are You An Independent Contractor?
According to Wonolo, “Some jobs on the Wonolo app are for employment and others are for independent contractors. A Wonoloer can accept jobs posted by business seeking employees or those seeking independent contractors.”
You should gain an understanding of this when signing up, but most jobs should be independent contracts.
2. Is Wonolo Legit?
There are plenty of positive Wonolo reviews and testimonials, and this company has been reliably paying people for a few years.
Some negative reviews mention payments are a bit slower than advertised. However, Wonolo is definitely legit.
3. How Do Taxes WOrk?
According to Wonolo, “per IRS guidelines, all Wonoloers will receive the required tax documents (i.e., a 1099-MISC and/or a Form W-2) by the end of January following the year you worked.”
4. Is There A Wonolo Referral Code?
If you invite a friend to Wonolo, you both earn $25 after they complete their first job successfully!
Here’s how to refer a friend to Wonolo:
- Open the Wonolo app and go to the menu bar.
- Tap Invite Friends.
- Share your Wonolo referral code with the person who is signing up.
- Make sure your friend enters this code when signing up.
You can try using this referral code to earn $25: BIKASH6.
I found the code on Reddit, so hope it works! 😛
5. Does Wonolo Hire Felons?
Remember, Wonolo isn't hiring you, another company is.
If a company runs a background check, it's up to them what hiring policy they follow.

Final Thoughts
When it comes to the gig economy, I think a lot of companies are oversold as being flexible.
I mean, even look at companies like DoorDash or Instacart…sure, they're flexible, but the signup process can take quite a bit and the learning curve is steepr than you'd think.
In contrast, Wonolo provides an efficient staffing solution that benefits both businesses and gig workers.
It might not work in your area yet, which is a downside.
However, if Wonolo is in your city, I think it's worth signing up for to see what kind of gigs are available in your area.
Hopefully, this Wonolo review clarifies what to expect! With some luck, you'll find some gigs in your area that are worth your time!
Thanks for reading, and best of luck!
