Is Opinion Outpost Legit Or A Scam? (Honest Review!)
Completing surveys for cash is an excellent way to make money online. And these days, there are hundreds of survey sites and apps you can use to make some extra money.
I've also been testing and using survey sites for years. And in that time, I've found some reliable sites that are decent side hustles, and ones that are downright scams.
Opinion Outpost, one of the most popular survey platforms out there, promises to pay you for sharing your opinion. And on the surface, it seems like a reputable site.
But is Opinion Outpost legit? And how much money can you realistically make with this website?
We tested the platform to learn more, and my Opinion Outpost review is sharing how this site works, its earning potential, and reviews from other users to help you decide if it's worth using.

What Is Opinion Outpost?
Opinion Outpost is a popular paid survey website that lets users earn PayPal cash and free gift cards for sharing their opinions and completing short online surveys.
The company is part of a larger market research group and has been in business since the 1970’s. Today, Opinion Outpost has over two million members and pays out hundreds of thousands of dollars in prizes to members each month according to its website.
If you're familiar with survey sites like Branded Surveys and Survey Junkie, then Opinion Outpost should feel quite easy to use.
The website is also free to sign up for if you're 17 or older. Currently, Opinion Outpost is available to people in the United States, Canada, UK, and Germany.
Is Opinion Outpost Legit?
Yes, Opinion Outpost is legit and lets you earn PayPal money and gift cards for completing online surveys. The company is highly rated on Trustpilot with a 3.4 star rating, and there's plenty of online payment proof.
I also signed up for Opinion Outpost and was able to complete one survey for money, and overall, the platform is an easy way to make money online.
Most negative Opinion Outpost reviews also complain about the platform's low earning potential.
Ultimately, Opinion Outpost is just a simple online side hustle you can use to earn a bit of extra cash. It's not a full-time job or serious income opportunity.
How Does Opinion Outpost Work?
I signed up to test Opinion Outpost for this review, and the website is very similar to most paid survey sites. Overall, it works in six steps:
- Verify your account
- Answer surveys for money
- Complete other paid tasks
- Level up your account
- Cash out
Time to explore how each step works in a bit more detail!
1. Sign Up
You can sign up for Opinion Outpost if you're 17 or older and live in the United States, Canada, UK, or Germany. This makes it a popular survey site for teens, and signing up is free.
To sign up, you provide your name, email address, address, and enter a password. You then verify your email address and complete a welcome survey that pays a small 5 point sign up bonus.
The welcome survey asks you questions about your age, education, income, job, household, and consumer preferences. This helps Opinion Outpost match you with more relevant surveys and is a common practice for gpt sites.
This welcome survey took me about 5 minutes to complete. The welcome bonus is worth $0.50, which isn't that great since sites like InboxDollars and MyPoints have $5 sign up bonuses.
2. Verify Your Account
Once you complete the welcome survey, you have to verify your identity and account to keep using Opinion Outpost.
In the United States, this requires uploading a photo of Government-issued ID, like a driver's license. And you can't skip this step or avoid uploading these documents.
Personally, I really dislike this requirement and think it's a massive downside of using Opinion Outpost. And I don't like that the platform asks for this after you spend time completing the welcome survey.
3. Answer Surveys
The main way to make money with Opinion Outpost is to answer surveys.
Survey topics include topics like entertainment, politics, health, finance, and general news. You can find available surveys on your main dashboard, and surveys have a time estimate and say how many points they pay.
Most Opinion Outpost surveys pay between $0.20 to $2 or $3. You can also find higher-paying surveys occasionally that pay $4 to $5 or more, and most surveys take about 15 to 30 minutes to complete.
On my Opinion Outpost dashboard, the highest-paying survey I could answer paid 250 points, which is worth $2.50. However, I got disqualified after attempting the pre-screener that many surveys have.
This is another downside to using Opinion Outpost and many survey sites; some surveys payout quick cash, but many end in disqualification.
4. Complete Studies & Challenges
According to Opinion Outpost, you can earn money by participating in other types of challenges and activities like:
- Product testing gigs
- Advertisement reviews
- Location-based surveys
- Diary studies
- Google ad-based surveys
I didn't see any of these offers in my account, but I signed up for Opinion Outpost recently. From what I've heard, these extra income opportunities only become available to select users once in a while.
Note that you can also earn $1 for referring your friends to join Opinion Outpost. However, this referral bonus caps at $5, so it's not a huge earner.
5. Level Up Your Account
To make the most money on Opinion Outpost, you want to qualify for as many surveys as possible. To do so, start by completing all of these qualification surveys in your account.
These are unpaid surveys but help Opinion Outpost get to know you better, so you’ll qualify for more surveys that are a better fit for you.
As you complete these surveys, you also move up levels on Opinion Outpost and earn various badges.
Badges range from Bronze to Diamond. The system is honestly a bit confusing, and it turns out that badges are just to show-off and don't actually help you earn more money.
This is another downside to Opinion Outpost I'm really not a fan of, especially since platforms like PrizeRebel and Branded Surveys have membership tiers that actually pay you with cash bonuses.
6. Cash Out
You need 50 points, or $5, to cash out most gift card rewards on Opinion Outpost. If you want to withdraw PayPal money, you need 100 points or $10 to request a payout.
I like that Opinion Outpost has both gift card and PayPal cash options. Gift card variety is also decent and includes major retailers like:
Gift cards are sent electronically and usually arrive in a business day or two, as do PayPal payments.

How Much Does Opinion Outpost Pay?
While Opinion Outpost is a reliable survey site that pays, you won’t get rich doing it. Most users average somewhere between $0.50 and $5 for every 15 – 20 minute survey that they complete. And my highest-paying survey in my account paid me $2.50 for a 40 minute survey.
Also note that the number of surveys you have available can vary depending on your individual demographics. Certain user groups may have different surveys available at different times. It’s not uncommon to have several surveys available one time you log in and zero surveys available on another visit.
All-in-all, you can probably make about $5 to $10 per week with Opinion Outpost if you complete a few surveys. This is a great way to save up gift cards for the holidays or earn some beermoney, but it's not a massive income source by any means.
Is Opinion Outpost A Scam?
No, Opinion Outpost isn't a scam, and I’ve personally earned and received rewards from this survey site. The site doesn't pay very much, but it is a leading survey panel that pays its users on time.
However, some users report that their accounts get suspended without any reason. This seems to happen frequently if users are inactive for a while, or if you answer questions inconsistently.
When completing surveys, make sure you are answering honestly and consistently, since conflicting answers may lead to suspension. Also don't use a VPN or try to game the system since this can result in a ban.
Pros & Cons
Pros:
- Website is user friendly and easy to navigate
- Company is well established and pays out millions of dollars a year
- Wide variety of payout options
- Registration for Opinion Outpost is quick and easy
- Low cash out requirement
Cons:
- Accounts are sometimes suspended for no apparent reason and it can be difficult to reclaim accounts
- You have to verify your identity to use Opinion Outpost
- No mobile app
- Large number of unpaid profile surveys.
- Survey disqualifications don't pay anything
- Lackluster sign up bonus
- Poor referral program
Other Opinion Outpost Reviews
After testing out Opinion Outpost, I think it's a legit company and a decent way to make a bit of side cash. And I like that some surveys pay more than a few dollars.
However, one of the best ways to tell if a side hustle is legitimate or not is to read testimonials from other members. So, here's what some other Opinion Outpost reviews are saying on Trustpilot:
- Sherry Ingle says: “Apparently they now have to verify accounts by collecting a photo ID and your license!! In this day of identity theft, this is going too far…just to do a few surveys and collect a few dollars.”
- William Kevin says: “They blocked me for no reason, and I was an active member participating in surveys carefully and carefully. It seems that this site does not have any credibility. Beware of wasting your time and effort on this board. It is a deceptive site.”
- Matthew Giles says: “What made my experience great was the consistency of the website! I felt like every time I logged in I had a great opportunity to stack points and earn money.”
As you can see, Opinion Outpost reviews are mixed. Some users report that they make decent money with Opinion Outpost. However, many reviews complain about the identity verification requirement or that accounts get banned sometimes.
This Opinion Outpost review from Logan Allec also shares how the platform works and what to expect in terms of earnings.
The review shares how Opinion Outpost has some high-paying surveys. But it also outlines how the site is a bit outdated and how disqualifications are a pretty annoying problem.
The Best Sites Like Opinion Outpost
After testing out Opinion Outpost, I think it's a legitimate platform that is a decent way to make money online for beginners. However, I dislike the high disqualification rates and the fact you have to verify your identity to sign up.
I also think there are several sites like Opinion Outpost that are better alternatives, including:
- Branded Surveys: My favorite survey platform with free PayPal cash rewards.
- Pinecone Research: Earn $3 for every survey you complete.
- Swagbucks: A fun way to earn by answering surveys, watching advertisements, shopping, installing apps, and more.
- MySoapBox: Another survey site where you can earn free gift cards.
- Kashkick: This site pays you with PayPal cash for gaming and answering surveys.
- Survey Junkie: A leading survey panel with a low $5 cash out minimum.
- Scrambly: A newer rewards platform with survey and gaming offers.
Tom's video also shares some of his favorite survey sites that you can use instead of Opinion Outpost.
None of these sites are full-time online jobs or massive earners. But you can easily cash out with all of them and earn some extra cash in your spare time.

Is Opinion Outpost Worth It?
Opinion Outpost is worth it if you want an easy way to earn a bit of PayPal cash or some free gift cards each month just for sharing your opinion. In contrast, it's not worth if you want to make more than $10 to $50 a month or so since it doesn't pay very much.
It's also not a great phone side hustle due to its lack of a mobile app. If you prefer using survey apps, I suggest using Branded Surveys and AttaPoll instead.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are There Any Opinion Outpost Hacks?
No, there aren't any Opinion Outpost hacks to get more points. The best way to earn more points with Opinion Outposts is to turn on notifications and to answer profile questionnaires so you qualify for more surveys.
How Much Are Opinion Outpost Points Worth?
1 Opinion Outpost point is worth $0.10, so 10 points equals $1. You need 50 points to redeem gift cards and 100 points to redeem PayPal cash.
Is Opinion Outpost Safe?
Yes, Opinion Outpost is safe, and you don't need to provide sensitive financial information to sign up. However, you have to verify your identity by uploading ID, and you also have to be comfortable sharing your data and opinions to use the site.
For me, the ID verification is a bit of a deal-breaker and I don't suggest using Opinion Outpost if you're on the fence about it.
You can also read the company's privacy policy to learn more about how your data is collected and managed.
Final Thoughts
While surveys won’t make you rich, it can be an interesting part-time gig that you can do while the baby is sleeping, at night while you watch TV, or while waiting for your kids in the school pick up line.
I started doing surveys when I was put on pregnancy bedrest for a few months and had nothing else to do. The money that I earned helped me save for the baby, and I’ve been supplementing my income this way ever since.
The key to making money with surveys is to be registered with multiple companies. And this is where using sites like InboxDollars, Opinion Outpost, Swagbucks, and others makes sense.
You won't get rich by using any of these platforms. But if you want a flexible side job, these sites are effective options.
Hopefully, my Opinion Outpost review helps you decide if this survey site belongs in your lineup.
